Sneaky here with one another pet character interview. Today, I’m speaking with a dog whose current book, Radical Regatta! Corsario Cover Mystery #4 is in the new anthology, Summer Snoops Unleashed: 14 Furr-ocious Mysteries and Cozy Crimes, that’s on tour with Escape with Dollycas Into a Good Book.
Hello, there, Mr. Dog. What is your name and your author’s name?
Kim and Brien named me Archie after they found me alone in the Pacific Ocean trying to get to shore in Corsario Cove. My owners called me Reggie—short for Reginald Duke of Monte Carlo. The man who owned me thought I brought him luck at the casino in Monaco. I like Archie better.
My author’s name is Anna Celeste Burke.
Mice to meet you, Archie. What book(s) have you appeared in? Please list them and their genre.
I’m a new friend for Kim and Brien in Radical Regatta! Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery #4.
Are you in a series? If so, please give information about it.
Yes, I’m so happy to meet Kim Reed and Brien Williams in Corsario Cove. It’s a beautiful place where I can run on the beach. Lots of trees around too—mostly palm trees.
Kim and Brien are young, sweet, and lots of fun although they get into too many dangerous situations. This time, some of it is thanks to me, but mostly because they have noses for trouble and the curiosity of cats, like you! There are now four books in the Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery series—starting with Cowabunga Christmas! Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery #1. I’ve heard them talk about their Christmas honeymoon when a dead Santa fell into the pool at the Sanctuary Resort & Spa, a swanky place here in the cove. That’s where they met this twitchy San Albinus detective who sometimes barks louder than me. I’m pretty sure, like me, he does that when he’s worried Kim and Brien are going to get hurt.
Right now, the only way to read my story is to buy this wonderful box set: Summer Snoops Unleashed:14 Furr-ocious Mysteries & Cozy Crime. My author and some of her friends are selling this for only 99c trying to raise money for three different shelters that help lost dogs like I was before Brien and Kim found me. I hope they raise a huge amount of money for places that help pets find families for them to love and be loved by them. It’s the best thing that can ever happen to a dog or a cat or even other kinds of pets.
The town in your series sounds like the one in my Cobble Cove mysteries. We have a dog there, too, named Fido, but I think I’m the main pet character, although he usually has a role in all our books. It’s great that you and the other authors in this box set are raising money for shelters. My author currently has a Facebook fundraiser for the shelter where she adopted her two cats from. It’s always great to support shelters.
Are you based on a real animal such as your author’s? If so, please give further details.
My author’s a fan of Dalmatians and Poodles and fell in love with Portuguese Water Dogs, like me, when one moved into the White House a few years ago.
Can you share an excerpt from one of your books that features you in an important scene? If so, please include it.
I’m in the very first chapter. So, here’s a little part of my story where Kim is calling Al, the head of resort security and Brien’s boss, for help while Brien tries to reach me.
“Yes. Brien and Bede have gone into the water. Brien’s way, way out at the edge of the cove. He’s trying to rescue a dog that’s swimming for shore from the ocean. Bede’s trying to catch up so he can help.”
“A dog? Are you sure?”
“Yes,” I replied. As I caught sight of the dog that was closer now, I spoke again. “I’m sure. Can you get medical help down here at the beach?”
“For the dog?”
“I hope the dog’s the only one who’s going to need it.” I took another look. My he-man, built like Chris Hemsworth in that Thor movie, was barely recognizable as he sliced through the glittering water. The dog was paddling toward him but moving more slowly now. Who knew how long the poor animal had been in the water since there wasn’t a boat anywhere near him?
“Got it. I’ll call the lifeguards on the boardwalk. Someone should already be there this morning. If not, I’ll go to their office and grab the rescue equipment myself.”
“Thanks,” I said as I hung up and then picked up a backpack that contained our wallets, keys, towels, water, and protein bars. Feeling useless, I pulled a couple of big towels from the bag and placed my phone in its watertight pouch before returning it to the backpack. I walked to the water’s edge and waited. Then my heart skipped a beat. The dog disappeared under the water.
Pawsome. Thanks for sharing that.
What do you like most about your role in your authors’ books?
I have a special animal playmate. We get into trouble, but I’m never lonely with him around. I got left alone a lot of the time before Kim & Brien found me. They like to have fun, too, and take me with them to the beach and to San Albinus. I get to ride in their golf cart
That sounds like such fun. I live in a library, so I’d love to hitch a ride on one of the book carts.
Are you a talking dog in your books or just silent like me—a cat who meows occasionally?
I wish I could talk and help Kim & Brien out more than I do. I woof and bark when I invite them to play, warn them, or try to protect them.
Same here, but I don’t woof and bark. I meow, purr, and make use lots of feline sign language to communicate with Alicia, Laura, and the other Cobble Cove library staff members.
What advice would you give other dog characters?
Be the best dog you can be and the very best friend to your human companions. People need tons of comfort and love—especially the ones who get chased by bad guys. In cases like that, occasionally, you’ve got to have their backs, too.
Well said. Cat characters should follow the same advice.
Do you have any new books coming out? Please give dates and details.
I’m going to have an important role in Kim and Brien’s next adventure, Bogus Bones! Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery #5. Normally, I’m a big fan of bones, but the ones I find are scary and tell a deadly story. My next adventure will be told late this year or early in 2020.
Are you and/or your author on social media? If so, please list your links.

Kelly Hashway fully admits to being one of the most accident-prone people on the planet, but luckily she gets to write about female sleuths who are much more coordinated than she is. Kim Hunt Harris is the USA Today and Wall Street Journal best-selling author of the Trailer Park Princess Christian cozy mystery series.
Kim knew she wanted to be a writer before she even knew how to write. When her parents read bedtime stories to her, she knew she wanted to be a part of the story world. She started out writing children’s stories, and her stories grew as she did. She discovered a gift for humor and a love for making people laugh with her tales, and the Trailer Park Princess series was born.
Kim loves to not only make her readers laugh and entertain them with a good mystery, but also to examine the issues the everyday people face…well, every day. Issues such as faith and forgiveness, perseverance and tolerance. Set in Lubbock, Texas, the fun books feature a cast of quirky characters, outrageous situations, a drama queen of a dog, and from time to time, a tear or two.
Kim lives with her husband of more than thirty years and two teenage kids in Lubbock, TX.
Susan Boles is a USA Today and Wall Street Journal Bestselling author who lives in Mississippi with her rescue mini Dachshund and rescue cat of no particular breed. You’ll find her writing mysteries centered around small southern towns with lots of great characters.
Lisa B. Thomas
Born and raised in Texas, I always knew I wanted to be a writer. Finally, after thirty-three years as a high school journalism and English teacher, I released my first novel. Having grown up reading Trixie Belden, Nancy Drew, and Agatha Christie, I was drawn to the mystery genre.
I write clean, classic whodunnits with realistic characters and situations. It’s probably because my first book was based on a true-life murder mystery from my own family. That book, Sharpe Shooter, led to the Maycroft Mysteries. I also write Killer Shots Mysteries and the Beachside Bookshop Magical Cozy Mysteries (co-written with Paula Lester.) I call my books “Mysteries with Heart & Humor,” and that’s just what you’ll get.
When not writing, I enjoy my grown husband and dog, my children, grandchildren, grandpets, photography, traveling, and antiquing (aka. buying and selling used junk).
