Sneaky Interviews the Kitten in A Sprinkling of Murder, the first Fairy Garden Mystery by Daryl Wood Gerber

Hello there, fluffy kitten. Welcome to my blog. What is your name and who is your author?

I am Pixie. I’m a ragdoll kitten, and my author is Daryl Wood Gerber.

Mice to meet you, Pixie. What book(s) have you appeared in? Please list them and their genre.

This is my very first book. A Sprinkling of Murder, the first Fairy Garden Mystery. It’s a cozy mystery with a “magical” twist. It’s set in Carmel-by-the-Sea.

OOh, that sounds great. Concatulations on your debut book. Please give information about your series.

The Fairy Garden Mysteries is just beginning. The second will come out  in 2021.

Pawsome! Are you based on a real pet such as your author’s? If so, please give further details.

No. My author doesn’t have a cat like me, though she used to have lots of cats growing up. Right now she has Sparky, a goldendoodle dog, and he’s quite sweet. He sleeps on his bed in the room where she writes, so I get to cuddle with him a lot—fictionally, of course.

Of claws. I was based on Oliver, Debbie’s Siamese who is now on Rainbow Bridge. She has three other cats who also appear in her books but not in my Cobble Cove series.

Can you share an excerpt from one of your books that features you in an important scene? If so, please include it.

I’m in lots of scenes. I’m not sure if they’re super important.  On the other hand, all of life is important, isn’t it? One act might cause another act. So here’s a little tidbit of me helping my owner, Courtney, as she works through a project. She’s the protagonist in the story. I love to keep her company.

After feeding Pixie and eating a cup of homemade minestrone—I’d made a pot a few days ago that would last me a week—I sauntered into the living room to flesh out my ideas for the first video. I wanted to demonstrate, step-by-step, how to make a modest fairy garden.

I moved around the room reciting what I wanted to say and imagining the items I would need: soil, succulents, ferns, maybe a miniature white gazebo and picket fence. I would add one of my favorite fairies, the kneeling girl with pink-painted wings and an angelic face. I didn’t want the presentation to be difficult beyond belief, but I wanted the fairy gardener to feel challenged.

Pixie, intrigued by the fact that I wasn’t lazing in the reading chair drinking in one of the many books in my to-be-read pile, leaped from footstool to footstool to take in my spiel.

I like that. Thank you for sharing. What do you like most about your role in your authors’ books?

I love being a helpmate to my owner. She needs me to work through ideas, and she needs to cuddle me. I also like being a friend to Fiona. She’s a fairy. I can see her but not everyone can. Fiona is quite cute and impish. Playing with her is the highlight of my day.

Sounds like fun. Are you a talking cat in your books or just a silent one like I am who just meows occasionally?

Oh, I don’t talk. But Courtney knows what I’m thinking.

Same with me and Alicia.

What advice would you give other cat characters?

Be supportive. That is our gift. Humans need cats like us to keep them calm and give them love. Their lives are so much more complicated than ours.

Ain’t that the truth?

Do you have any new books coming out? Please give dates and details.

A Glimmer of Truth will come out in 2021. I’m not sure of the exact date yet. I’ll let you know. Okay?

Please do.

Are you and/or your author on social media? If so, please list your links.

My author is on social media. She shares pictures of me occasionally, though I have to say she shares a lot more of her dog Sparky than she does of me. She and I should have a chat about that.  She also shares lots of pictures of the fairy gardens she makes.

Debbie shares more photos of her real-life cats than of me, too. I’d like to see your author’s fairy gardens. I think Debbie’s daughter made one once. Thanks so much for being here, Pixie, and best whiskers to you and Daryl on your new series. I’m sharing your blog tour and giveaway below.

Fairy garden store owner Courtney Kelly believes in inviting magic into your life. But when uninvited trouble enters her shop, she’ll need more than a sprinkling of her imagination to solve a murder . . .

Since childhood, Courtney has loved fairies. After her mother died when she was ten, she lost touch with that feeling of magic. A year ago, at age twenty-nine, she rediscovered it when she left her father’s landscaping business to spread her wings and start a fairy garden business and teashop in beautiful Carmel, California. At Open Your Imagination, she teaches garden design and sells everything from fairy figurines to tinkling wind chimes and trickling fountains. Now she’s starting a book club tea.

But the light of the magical world she’s created inside her shop is darkened one night when she discovers neighboring dog-grooming business owner Mick Watkins dead beside a fountain. To make matters worse, the police suspect Courtney of the crime. To clear her name and find the real killer, Courtney will have to wing it. But she’s about to get a little help from an unexpected new friend . . .
