Sneaky interviews Sunny, the Dog from Dog-Gone Dead, A Low Country Dog Walker Mystery by Jackie Layton

Hello, Miss Dog. What is your name and your author’s name?

My name is Sunny. I’m the German Shepherd of Andi Grace Scott, the amateur sleuth in the series. Our author is Jackie Layton.

Tail wags to you, Sunny. What book(s) have you appeared in? Please list them and their genre.

I’ve appeared in two cozy mysteries. Bite the Dust and Dog-Gone Dead are the first two books in A Low Country Dog Walker Mystery series set in Heyward Beach, South Carolina.

Sounds like an interesting series.

Are you based on a real dog such as your author’s? If so, please give further details.

My owner has allergies, and she has a West Highlander Terrier named Heinz. He’s hypoallergenic and a good dog, but I’m not based on him. We’re both loyal to our owners. I’m a girl and a little better behaved than Heinz. We both also love walking on the beach.

Loyal dogs are great to their humans and main characters.

What do you like most about your role in your authors’ books?

Loyalty is an admirable trait, and I’m loyal to Andi Grace. I’ve been by her side for years through her ups and downs, and she takes awesome care of me.

Nice.

Are you a talking pet in your books or just a silent one like I am who just meows occasionally?

I’m silent, but Andi Grace can often read my moods.

Good main characters can do it. I know Alicia can read mine very well.

What advice would you give other dog characters?

Pay attention. You never know when your owner will stumble over a dead body, and if that happens, you’ll probably help you owner track down clues.

Pawsome advice. In my forthcoming book that Debbie is finishing right now, I’m the one who stumbles across the body.

Do you have any new books coming out? Please give dates and details.

The third book of this series will come out later in 2020. It’s called Bag of Bones, and you’ll meet a few cats and cat lovers.

Wow, Meow! I’m certainly interested in that and I’m sure that my cat-loving readers will be, too.

Who’d have thought mulch could cause such a stink?

Low Country dog walker Andi Grace Scott is happy to score some free mulch from one of her brother’s landscaping jobs—until she discovers the dead body buried beneath the bark.

Worse, her brother’s landscaping tools were used to commit the murder. Once the police arrest her brother and seem happy to have “caught their man,” Andi Grace has no choice but to track down the real killer. She’ll risk everything to prove her brother’s innocence. Even if it means turning over every rock in town.

If you love small-town coastal life, dogs, and strong heroines, you’ll love Dog-Gone Dead.
