Sneaky’s Interview with Maggie, the Cat from Murder in the Bayou Boneyard, A Cajun Country Mystery by Ellen Byron

Hello, Ms. Kitty. Please introduce yourself and your author.

My name is Maggie, and my author is Ellen Byron.

It’s pawsome to meet both of you.

What book(s) have you appeared in? Please list them and their genre.

I first appeared in BODY ON THE BAYOU, the second Cajun Country Mystery, which is a cozy. Since then, I’ve kind of made an appearance in the rest of them. I was found as a kitten with my mom and brothers and sisters. I was adopted by the son of Maggie’s boyfriend, who named me after her. Sometimes I’m not named in a book, but if Xander is there, I’m somewhere there with him! The other books are A CAJUN CHRISTMAS KILLING, MARDI GRAS MURDER, and FATAL CAJUN FESTIVAL.Very mice.

Can you share an excerpt from one of your books that features you in an important scene? If so, please include it.

Here’s the last page from BODY ON THE BAYOU, where I get my name:

Very Mice.

What do you like most about your role in your authors’ books?

I pretty much just keep my human, Xander, company, which suits me just fine!

Sounds like a fulfilling job.

Are you a talking cat in your books or just a silent one like I am who just meows occasionally?

The latter.

Meow, too.

What advice would you give other cat characters?

Enjoy the ride! It’s fun being in a book.

That’s so true.

Do you have any new books coming out? Please give dates and details.

My author has a new book coming out – MURDER IN THE BAYOU BONEYARD, that released 9/8. It revolves around Halloween and is so much fun. I think Halloween is kind of scary, so I lay low in that book.

Halloween cozies are lots of fun. My author wrote one, too, our 5th Cobble Cove cozy, No Gravestone Unturned. We’re hoping it comes out before Halloween. I even witness the murder in this one.

Maggie Crozat has the Halloween heebie-jeebies in USA Today bestselling and Agatha Award-winning author Ellen Byron’s howlingly funny sixth Cajun Country mystery.

Maggie Crozat, proprietor of a historic Cajun Country B&B, prefers to let the good times roll. But hard times rock her hostelry when a new cell phone app makes it easy for locals to rent their spare rooms to tourists. With October–and Halloween–approaching, she conjures up a witch-crafty marketing scheme to draw visitors to Pelican, Louisiana.

Five local plantation B&Bs host “Pelican’s Spooky Past” packages, featuring regional crafts, unique menus, and a pet costume parade. Topping it off, the derelict Dupois cemetery is the suitably sepulchral setting for the spine-chilling play Resurrection of a Spirit. But all the witchcraft has inevitably conjured something: her B&B guests are being terrified out of town by sightings of the legendary rougarou, a cross between a werewolf and vampire.

When, in the Dupois cemetery, someone costumed as a rougarou stumbles onstage during the play–and promptly gives up the ghost, the rougarou mask having been poisoned with strychnine, Maggie is on the case. But as more murders stack up, Maggie fears that Pelican’s spooky past has nothing on its bloodcurdling present.
