Sneaky Interviews Sweet Pea from Paws for Concern, A Canine Confections Mystery, by Amy Hueston

Sneaky here with another pet interview. Hello, Ms. Dog. What is your name and your author’s name?

My name is Sweet Pea and the author’s name is Amy Hueston

Tail wags to you, Sweet Pea. What book(s) have you appeared in? Please list them and their genre.

I’ve only been in Paws for Concern so far, as it’s the first in the Canine Confections Mystery series. I’m having so much fun it! And everybody is so nice to me. The genre is a cozy mystery which I like, because I know I’m always going to remain safe and happy.

Cozies are great. I’m in the Cobble Cove mysteries. Although you’re right about everyone being safe and happy, I come real close to facing serious danger in my latest book, No Gravestone Unturned.

Are you in a series? If so, please give information about it.

Yup. A Canine Confections Mystery series. It’s a DOG bakery in Palm Beach. Yum.

That sounds yummy, you lucky dog, you.

Are you based on a real dog such as your author’s? If so, please give further details.

Yes, I am. Her name was Ebony. Like Ebony, I’m a black Labrador Mix and I came from a local shelter. Also, I’m a very sweet girl, or so they tell me.

Awww. I’m based on Oliver, Debbie’s Siamese who is now on Rainbow Bridge.

Can you share an excerpt from one of your books that features you in an important scene? If so, please include it.

Sure! This was when my owner before Samantha became my owner was found dead. (If I sound not that shook up about it, it’s because I only knew my first owner for a few days before she got killed.)

From Paws for Concern:

Quietly, I said, “Hold on a sec,” held the knife up in the air and listened at the doors to the walk-in refrigerator and supply closet. I couldn’t hear anything over the refrigerator hum and my ragged breath. Sweet Pea’s mouth was closed shut as she observed my every move. My eyes fell on the door that led to my patio and back alley. The lock was broken and lying askew. It answered my question of how Whitney, Sweet Pea and the killer gained access to my dog bakery, but the question was why?

Hmmm. Pawsome excerpt. Thanks for sharing.

What do you like most about your role in your authors’ books?

I like that Samantha may not be perfect, but she sure tries to understand me and make me happy. Plus, the fact she owns a dog bakery and brings me to work with her every day so I get to interact with people and dogs (and goodies) all day is a big check in the plus column.

That sounds great. I’m in the Cobble Cove Library most of the time and also spend some days at Alicia and John’s house. In my new release, I witness a murder in a cemetery when I leave the library on Halloween.

Are you a talking dog in your books or just a silent pet like I am who just meows occasionally?

I hardly ever meow and I don’t bark a whole lot either. I do whine when Samantha is making something involving peanut butter. I don’t talk in human language but my body language and whimpers usually get my point across.

I use body language, too, to alert Alicia to clues and danger, but in my latest books, I also allow readers to “see” my thoughts and the thoughts of my other pet co-stars.

What advice would you give other dog characters?

Open your eyes real wide and look up at your Human like you haven’t eaten in a week. You stand a better chance of getting a piece of cheese that way.

MOL (meow out loud). I gotta try that for some chicken or fish.

Do you have any new books coming out? Please give dates and details.

I do, I do! Paws for Alarm is the 2nd in the Canine Confections series and it’s due to release 10/2020. It was a lot of fun except for a part where a cat showed up on the property of my mansion’s estate. All I did was try to give her a little lick hello and she swiped at my face. It sort of hurt my feelings. But I’ll have to get over it because it looks like Samantha’s aunt is going to adopt her and give her a fancy new home to live.

That sounds like my first encounter with Kittykai, the Calico who moved to Cobble Cove in my 4th book. We are now best buds, and I’m sure you and the new cat will get along, too.

Are you and/or your author on social media? If so, please list your links.

Thanks for asking and yes, we are. We love meeting people on social media and sharing happy news or corny jokes or goofy pictures. And just so you know, my author is a singer too, so some of the links might contain the link to her CD.

Wow, Meow! Debbie doesn’t sing, but she does feature a poet and songwriter in our new book. He is one of the characters, and his wife sings a song in the book.

Thanks for joining me sweet, Sweet Pea. I’m sharing your author’s links, blog tour, and giveaway below. Best tail wags to you and Amy on your new release.

Life is good for Samantha Armstrong. She left her cheating boyfriend, settled into her cozy cottage on her Aunt Mary’s Palm Beach estate and is finally opening Canine Confections, her dream dog bakery on the ritzy Worth Avenue.

But Samantha’s happy new life goes doggone crazy when Palm Beach resident and pastry shop owner Whitney Goodwin is found dead on Canine Confections’ floor, whisking Samantha into the middle of a murder investigation. The only bright spot is that she finds herself adopting Whitney’s loveable dog Sweet Pea.

As the killer strikes again, it’s obvious that the shopkeepers on Worth Avenue are the target. Samantha’s impatience won’t let sleeping dogs lie. She takes it upon herself to move things along by padding around town with Sweet Pea and sniffing out clues to clear her name and Canine Confections’ reputation—before it is too late …

Includes a recipe from Chef Sarah Deters at the test kitchen of Three Dog Bakery, the original bakery for dogs!
