Sneaky Interviews Marshmallow, the Cat from Mimi Lee Reads Between the Lines, A Sassy Cat Mystery by Jennifer J. Chow

Today, I’m honored to have another cat guest with me, Marshmallow from Mimi Lee Reads Between the Lines, A Sassy Cat Mystery, by Jennifer J. Chow.

Mice to meet you Marshmallow. What book(s) have you appeared in? Please list them and their genre.

I’m in Mimi Lee Gets A Clue and Mimi Lee Reads Between the Lines. Both are cozy mysteries.

Wow, Meow. I’m in a cozy mystery series, too, the Cobble Cove mysteries. Tell me about yours.

I’m in the Sassy Cat Mystery Series, where I solve cases, along with my human sidekick, Mimi.

Pawsome! My human sidekick is Alicia, the director of the Cobble Cove Library. I help her solve mysteries and murders, but she doesn’t realize I’m doing it.

Are you based on a real cat such as your author’s? If so, please give further details.

No, I’m much more inspired by Garfield, but my immense fluff came by my author’s real-life kitty observations.

I see. Well, I’m Siamese and loosely based on Oliver, my author Debbie’s kitty who went to Rainbow Bridge a few years ago.

Can you share an excerpt from one of your books that features you in an important scene? If so, please include it.

This is from Chapter 10 of Mimi Lee Reads Between the Lines:\

Chapter 10

Marshmallow and the poodle exchanged a few words—well, barks or whatever. Nimbus crept over to the poodle, but the docile dog didn’t seem to mind her intense scrutiny.

Then Nimbus came over to me and did figure-eight turns around my legs.

“I’ll take that as a compliment,” I said to her.

The owner returned, but he’d thrown on a trench coat over his clothes and carried an umbrella. I noticed Nimbus dash and hide under the front desk. I wrinkled my nose at the sight.

Still, I focused on the customer and asked, “Is it raining?”

“Drizzling, and I don’t want my baby to get wet.” He took off his coat. “In fact, I might wrap him in this.”

Nimbus crept back out from under the desk and studied the pet owner as he paid for the grooming. The man left me a generous tip.

After the owner left, I turned to Marshmallow. “Nimbus acted oddly. What was with the hiding?”

Marshmallow turned to the kitten and questioned her using some staccato meows.

As the conversation continued, Nimbus seemed to shrink into herself and grow smaller.

Finally, Marshmallow translated for me. “She’s got a bad association with large coats.”

“How so?” I asked.

“Seems like she saw a dark figure draped in a huge coat very recently.”

“When and where was this?”

“Outside Roosevelt Elementary.” Marshmallow’s blue eyes looked deep into mine. “And get this. Nimbus saw this eerie man the day Helen Reed died.”

What a purr-fect excerpt. Thanks for sharing it.

What do you like most about your role in your authors’ books?

Showing how savvy cats are at sleuthing—we’re the purr-fect detectives.

You got that right, Marsh.

Are you a talking cat in your books or just a silent one like I am who just meows occasionally?

Oh, I talk all right . . . and read. Too bad I can only speak directly into my human’s mind.

I only speak to my pet character co-stars and Debbie’s readers who can read my thoughts, but that only happened after our 4th book. Before that, I communicated with everyone using body language, which I still do with the human characters, and most of them are not too adept at reading that form of communication.

What advice would you give other cat characters?

Let your owners know who’s really boss in the book.

We felines know that cats are bosses inside and outside of books.

Do you have any new books coming out? Please give dates and details.

My next one is out on November 10th: Mimi Lee Reads Between the Lines. The one after that, Mimi Lee Cracks the Code, comes out in 2021.

Concatulations! The 5th book of our series, No Gravestone Unturned, came out in October and just finished a blog tour with the same nice lady, Lori, who is running yours.

Are you and/or your author on social media? If so, please list your links.

My author is on social media. (I’d much rather use that time to take a nap.) You can find her on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram:

I’m not on social media either, but I have my own blog as you can see. I’m sharing your blog tour and giveaway below. Best whiskers to you and your author on your new release.Mimi Lee Reads Between the Lines (A Sassy Cat Mystery)

When a local teacher is found dead, LA’s newest pet groomer Mimi Lee finds herself in a pawful predicament—with her younger sister’s livelihood on the line.

Mimi Lee is on top of the world. She has a thriving pet grooming business, the sweetest boyfriend, and a talking cat to boot. When she arrives at the elementary school where her sister Alice works, she’s expecting a fun girls’ night out—but instead finds a teacher slumped over in her car, dead.

Alice was the last one to see Helen Reed, which instantly marks her as the prime suspect. Unable to sit quietly and let the authorities walk all over her sister, Mimi starts snooping and talks to Helen’s closest contacts, including one jumpy principal, a two-faced fiancé, and three sketchy teachers. With the help of her sassy but savvy cat, Marshmallow, and a cute kitten named Nimbus, the clock’s ticking for Mimi to get to the bottom of yet another case before her sister gets schooled.
