Sneaky Interviews Latifa from Falling Into Magic, A Destiny Falls Magic and Mystery Cozy Mystery by Elizabeth Pantley

Hello, Ms. Cat. Welcome to my blog. Please introduce yourself and your author.

Hello Sneaky! I’m Latifa. Thanks for having me. The lovely woman who writes about me is Elizabeth Pantley. (She gets me, you know?)

I certainly do. Debbie gets me, as well.

What book(s) have you appeared in? Please list them and their genre.

This is my debut! I felt she should have called the book Latifa’s Story, but I do like the one she chose: Falling into Magic. Makes you think of falling in love doesn’t it?

Yes. By the way, what are you doing after the interview? (just joking). It’s a very nice title. Concatulations on your debut.

Are you in a series? If so, please give information about it.

Goodness, yes, toots! I have a very bright future planned for myself, and luckily my author agrees. The Destiny Falls Magic & Mystery Series is just getting launched with this first book. But Elizabeth is hard at work on book two and tells me she has ideas for many, many more fascinating stories.

Wow, Meow! That sounds pawsome. I recall the feeling when I appeared in my first Cobble Cove book, A Stone’s Throw. I was so happy when Debbie turned it into a series. Five books later, I’m not a big star of it.

Are you based on a real cat such as your author’s? If so, please give further details.

Would you believe I’m based on my author’s sister’s cat, Chaco! I’m actually a chocolate-point Himalayan, and darling Chaco is a Pixie-bob. We are both incredibly smart, purrrty felines with Rubenesque figures and plenty of sass.

Oh, my goodness. We must get together sometime. I’m a handsome Siamese. We would have lovely kittens together. I’m based on my author’s Siamese, Oliver, who is now on Rainbow Bridge, poor guy, but I live on for him.

Can you share an excerpt from one of your books that features you in an important scene? If so, please include it.

I’m in so many of the important scenes that my author won’t allow me to share – such big secrets the girl has! But here’s one I particularly like, since it showcases one of my many skills:

The soft glow left over from my lovely day dissipated in a blink when I realized it was time to dress for the family dinner. I’d been in my room catching up on work and emails, and the time flew by, but my respite was over. Time to buck up.

“Latifaaaa?” I sang out, “Where are you kitty?”

“Sorry, Cupcake. Not liking the ‘kitty’ thing.” she answered, “Do like the singing part, though.” She sauntered out of the cat alcove.

“Want to help me choose an outfit for the Big Family Dinner?” I asked.

Her whole demeaner perked up. The two of us went into the closet to choose an outfit.

“Must find something that says, ‘I care, I’m stylish, I’m confident.’ Latifa murmured as she strolled around the closet.

I didn’t know if the dinner would be in the so-called backyard again, or in the dining room, so I sent a quick text off to find out. The verdict: backyard event.

I decided on a handkerchief hem maxi-dress in cream and bright peach. I paired it with a long chain necklace and complimentary dangling earrings. Latifa suggested that I stick with the cork wedges for walking across the lawn. I kept my makeup light and my hair down and wavy.

I agreed to meet everyone in the foyer, and it was time. Cue the funeral march. Not literally, of course. I just mean I was having a major attack of nerves.

What a purrfect excerpt. Thanks for sharing it.

What do you like most about your role in your authors’ books?

What’s not to love? I’m the main character’s best friend and side-kick – kind of like Sherlock’s Watson, but with more flair, style and much better hair.

My author has a human sidekick, this lady named Gilly, but she spends a lot of time with me, too.

Are you a talking cat in your books or just a silent one like I am who just meows occasionally?

Here’s the trick, only my owner is privy to my ramblings. You could say she’s the luckiest girl in town.

Interesting. My owner isn’t privy to mine, but in our latest books, all the other pet characters are and the readers who can “see” my thoughts.

What advice would you give other cat characters?

Hmm. I would advise that you jump up on your author’s desk and meow and purr until she gets your parts exactly right. And if a chapter goes by without you in it – that’s time to land in her lap and nuzzle her chin until she remembers you’re there.

MOL (Meow Out Loud). You make a very good point, Latifa, honey.

Do you have any new books coming out? Please give dates and details.

Ooooh! It’s so exciting! Book two has an even bigger mystery, though we have to wait about four months to read all about it. Tell you what? I’ll do my best to get my girl to type a little faster – then we can get on with the story. I’ve been told it’s about a character we already know, and her fascinating story. I can tell it will be good by the title: The Disappearance of Emily. It’s book two in the Destiny Falls Magic & Mystery series.

That sounds so good. I was missing in a book once, Written in Stone, and where I turned up led Alicia into danger but helped her solve the mystery.

Are you and/or your author on social media? If so, please list your links.

Who isn’t on social media? I have to rely on her, though, as I’m lacking the opposable thumbs to work the keyboard. She’s been kind enough to allow me to dictate this interview – see darling, I did acknowledge you. (She can be so needy.)

When Hayden was a child, she lost her cat. Adults told her the cat has escaped the house and ran away, but she knew the truth. The mirror had taken her. She knew because the mirror had given her a glimpse of an alternate world and had nearly pulled her in, so she was certain the cat had suffered that fate.

Twenty years later Hayden discovers the true secret of the mirror when she is thrust into it by a mysterious villain. She learns of a world she never knew existed, and a family she never knew she had. But danger brought her here, and it followed her. And now, Hayden is on a mission to see that the threat is removed, so that she can begin her magical, meaningful new life in this enchanted world.

“A magical, delightful tale that held my attention with a quirky cast of characters, engaging dialogue, a pleasantly appealing universe, and an intriguing plotline that I could not put down. I can’t wait to see where we go with Hayden’s next adventure.” — Dru Ann, MWA Raven Award winner

“What a captivating read! . . . I couldn’t put it down. A great story, full of interesting people and places to get to know, with surprises around every corner.” — Linda C. Goodreads reviewer

“The world-building and magic system is fascinating. Destiny Falls is a wondrous place that seems to cater to citizens’ wants and needs. I love that it is almost a character in its own right, and I was intrigued by the constantly changing world. Vivid imagery paints a clear picture of Destiny falls and its inhabitants. Falling into Magic is a dynamic introduction to the Destiny Falls Mystery & Magic series.” — Julie Petitbon

  1. interesting Cat interview. Falling Into Magic, Latifa’s story, is both entertaining and exciting. The story moves right along, and keeps the reader right along with it. Nice, cute and entertaining with the Cat twist.
