Sneaky the Cat Interview Missy the Dog from Buttercream Betrayal by Kim Davis

Hello, Miss Doggy. What is your name and your author’s name?

My name is Missy and my author’s name is Kim Davis.

Tail wags to you both, and welcome to my blog.

What book(s) have you appeared in? Please list them and their genre.

So far, I’ve been featured in Frosted Yuletide Murder and Buttercream Betrayal. They are books four and five in the Cupcake Catering Mystery series, which is a cozy mystery series.

They sound yummy. Condogulations to you!

Are you in a series? If so, please give information about it.

As mentioned above, I’m part of the Cupcake Catering Mystery series. One of my owners who stars in the book, Emory Martinez, caters cupcakes for a living when she’s not trying to solve murder mysteries. My other co-owner, Tillie Skyler, is 12 years old—which I think is about 83 years old in human years. Tillie likes to help solve crimes alongside Emory.

Interesting.

Are you based on a real dog such as your author’s? If so, please give further details.

I am based on my author’s mini goldendoodle, Missy. When she adopted the real-life Missy, she wrote me into her series, starring alongside her granddaughters’ dog, Piper. In real life, Piper doesn’t like my puppy antics too much—I chew up all her toys and am too rambunctious for her. In the book, my author has decided we’re best buddies although she’s made us just about as mischievous as I am in real life.

Cool!

Can you share an excerpt from one of your books that features you in an important scene? If so, please include it.

“Piper, Missy, stop! Stay, come, stop, sit!” My voice cracked as I yelled to get my dogs’ attention. My mouth continued to spew every command I’d recently learned, and then some, in the dog training course we’d just finished. I watched with mounting horror as the two dogs careened toward Eloise Parker. Of course, the two dogs didn’t listen to me. They never did unless Eloise’s son, Shawn, who also happened to be the dog trainer, was around.

Piper finally noticed the woman and tried to make a course correction. But with her growing momentum, along with Missy hot on her tail, the two dogs couldn’t help but sideswipe Eloise. The ceramic pie dish, cradled in her hands, crashed to the floor.

She raised a bony, ring-laden hand and pointed at me. “You and your dogs have been nothing but trouble from the very start. Get them out of here.”

I guess I didn’t move fast enough to suit her.

“I didn’t mean tomorrow, Emory. Get those dogs out now!”

I tore my gaze from her glare and watched my two dogs run out the wide-open glass double doors. Several other dogs followed, barking. Torn between collecting the leashes and slinking away from the clubhouse and abandoning their graduation certificate or grabbing paper towels to clean up Eloise’s award-winning apple pie, I stood frozen in place. The need to slink away was strong, but concern over the dogs injuring themselves on the shattered pie plate won out.

Before I could take a step toward the kitchen to find paper towels, a loud whistle pierced the air.

“Sit!” The dog trainer’s voice was loud and commanding. I felt the urge to sit right where I was. The dogs ceased to bark, and from my vantage point, I saw most of them sit, their tongues lolling from the sides of their mouths. Naturally, Missy and Piper were having too much fun to listen, and they both jumped into the community pool. I probably never should have introduced them to swimming with my nieces over the summer.

Pawsome excerpt. Thanks for sharing it.

What do you like most about your role in your authors’ books?

I keep my owners on their toes and make them laugh with my mischievous antics.

I’m sure that’s lots of fun for your human co-stars and readers. Good for you.

Are you a talking dog in your books or just a silent pet like I am who just meows occasionally?

Alas, I remain silent in the books aside from some barking and whining once in a while. I wish Emory knew what I was trying to say… bacon-bacon-bacon!

MOL (Meow Out Loud). Alicia has trouble understanding me sometimes, but in my latest books, my pet co-stars and readers can “see” my thoughts.

What advice would you give other dog characters?

Make sure your human gives you lots of treats and belly rubs!

Good advice for all pets.

Do you have any new books coming out? Please give dates and details.

Buttercream Betrayal, the fifth book in the Cupcake Catering Mystery series, released on September 13, 2022. It’s available on Amazon in both print and ebook.

What it’s about:

Intent on getting their two mischievous dogs under control, Emory Martinez and her half sister, Vannie, join a group dog training program led by Shawn Parker. With a graduation certificate just within grasp and a party to celebrate their hard-won achievements, what could go wrong? For starters, their two dogs have decided to wreak havoc during the party and tempers flare. It turns out not everyone is pleased with the dog trainer and his mother, the condo association president. Whispers of the mother and son’s misbehavior, or worse, fly amongst the barks, whines, and growls of the canines.

When Emory finds the body of Mrs. Parker amidst an explosive situation, it becomes apparent there is more truth to the whispers instead of just gossip. Could one of the canine-loving participants be responsible? Or an outsider who hated her heavy-handed rule over the condo homeowners? Emory, Vannie, and octogenarian Tillie must sift through the clues to find out who has been betrayed and who has decided to take justice into their own hands.

Wow, Meow! Love it.

Are you and/or your author on social media? If so, please list your links.

Unfortunately, my author won’t let me have my own social media pages. But sometimes she shares pictures of me!
