Sneaky Interviews Baby, the Dog and Last Chance, the Horse from Death by Theft by Abigail Keam

Hello, there, and welcome to Sneaky’s blog, Mr. Dog. What is your name?

My name is Baby. I am a 200 pound English Mastiff and I am speaking for Last Chance. Being only a few weeks old, he doesn’t know how to coalesce his thoughts properly and is rather shy. He has asked me to represent him.

Last Chance is a foal from dam Jean Harlow and sire Comanche. Like his father, he is an ebony Thoroughbred but with a white star on his forehead and four white stocking feet. He has been kidnapped by some bad humans and I have been looking for him.

Nice to meet both of you.

What book(s) have you appeared in? Please list them and their genre.

My human friend is Josiah Reynolds.  I’ve been with her since I was a two month old puppy. We’ve had many wonderful adventures together. Mostly I keep my human out of trouble. Here are our adventures listed below. Right now we are working on finding Last Chance, but I find him in the end.  You might say I’m the hero of the story—not the humans.

The Josiah Reynolds Mysteries

Death By A HoneyBee
Death By Drowning
Death By Bridle
Death By Bourbon
Death By Lotto
Death by Chocolate
Death by Haunting
Death By Derby
Death By Design
Death By Malice
Death By Drama
Death By Stalking
Death By Deceit
Death By Magic
Death By Shock
Death By Chance
Death By Poison
Death By Greed
Death By Theft
Death By Betrayal

Wow! That’s quite a list. It’s a few books longer than Debbie’s, but she has two series and standalones, too.

I should warn my readers about your spoiler for Last Chance, but no harm done.

Are you in a series? If so, please give information about it.

My human is Josiah Reynolds who is a beekeeper. She has a knack of stumbling over dead bodies—so far nineteen.  Of course, I go along with Josiah as she searches for clues. We love our adventures together and, once in a while, I pull her kester out of danger.  That my job—to keep my human safe. What can I say? I love her.

Very mice. I love Alicia the librarian,. too, although I’m not her cat. I’m the Cobble Cove library’s cat.

Are you based on a real animal such as your author’s? If so, please give further details.

There is a woman named Abigail Keam. She claims that I am based on her English Mastiff, Belle, but I think that is piddle. I am me and I am an original!

Good for you. I was based on my author’s Siamese who is  now on Rainbow Bridge, but I’m not his replica at all.

What do you like most about your role in your authors’ books?

Last Chance just told me that he is tired and is in need of a nap. He is going to sleep in the straw, but you go ahead with your questions.

That’s okay. Thanks for helping him out.

Are you a talking animal in your books or just a silent one like I am who just meows occasionally?

I communicate with Josiah Reynolds with whines, tail wags, barks, growls, and wistful glances. My human is not educated in dog talk. Last Chance neighs and stays near his mother. She communicates with whinnies and scent. Last Chance can detect her from a multitude of horses in a field just by her smell. I’m pretty good at scents, too.

Pawsome!

What advice would you give other animal characters?

Find a human you can count on. So many humans are feckless, you know. If you find one who will share their home with you, be patient with them. Humans can be pathetically stupid.

Ain’t that the truth. I’m lucky to have Alicia.

Do you have any new books coming out? Please give dates and details.

I am very excited about Death By Theft: A Josiah Reynolds Mystery  that just came out Monday Oct 30st. Last Chance and I are the stars of the mystery. Just ignore those pesky humans who get in our way.

Congratulations! I’m sharing your author’s blog tour for that book below.

Josiah is happy for her pals Lady Elsmere and Shaneika Mary Todd when broodmare Jean Harlow gives birth to a male foal sired by Comanche. The owners of both horses have high hopes the foal will become a stakes winner—maybe even win the Kentucky Derby. The foal has a broad chest, indicating significant lung capacity—important for winning races, but just like his daddy, the foal is ebony with a bad attitude.

Josiah and Shaneika visit dam Jean Harlow early one morning and are shocked to find the prized foal is missing. They frantically search Lady Elsmere’s and Josiah’s farms without success. It’s urgent they find the foal fast as he is not yet weaned and is too young to be separated from his mother. Who would snatch the feisty foal from his mother’s care? And equally important, why?

About Abigail Keam

Abigail Keam is an award-winning and Amazon best-selling author who writes the Josiah Reynolds Mystery Series about a Southern beekeeper turned amateur female sleuth. Besides loving history, Kentucky bourbon, and chocolate, Abigail loves honeybees and for many years made her living by selling honey at a farmers’ market like her protagonist, Josiah Reynolds. She is an award-winning beekeeper who has won many honey awards at the Kentucky State Fair including the Barbara Horn Award, which is given to beekeepers who rate a perfect 100 in a honey competition.

Miss Abigail has taken her knowledge of beekeeping to create a fictional beekeeping protagonist, Josiah Reynolds, who solves mysteries in the Bluegrass. While Miss Abigail’s novels are for enjoyment, she discusses the importance of a local sustainable food economy and land management for honeybees and other creatures.

She currently lives on the Kentucky River in a metal house with her husband and various critters. She still has honeybees.
