Sneaky Interviews Sasha, the Alaskan Huskie from Cry Wolf by Lark O. Jensen

Hello, Ms. Dog. What is your name and your author’s name?

My name is Sasha. My author’s name is Lark O. Jensen, but she says that’s her pseudonym and she’s actually Linda O. Johnston.

Tail wags to the two of you.

What book(s) have you appeared in? Please list them and their genre.

I have appeared in two books: BEAR WITNESS, and now CRY WOLF. Both are cozy mysteries.

My favorite genre.

Are you in a series? If so, please give information about it.

Yes, BEAR WITNESS and CRY WOLF are the Alaska Untamed mystery series. They both take place in Alaska and involve my person, Stacie Calder, who is a naturalist.

Sounds Pawsome!

Are you based on a real dog such as your author’s? If so, please give further details.

No, I am unique, although my author has said she was inspired to write about me after visiting a place where huskies are bred and give dog sled tours when she visited Alaska a while ago.

That was a lucky break for you.

Can you share an excerpt from one of your books that features you in an important scene? If so, please include it.

Here’s one from BEAR WITNESS. I do a lot in CRY WOLF, too.

Only Sasha’s nose suddenly went up in the air as she rose even more. And then she started barking.

She never did that. “Hush,” I told her. “No barks.” And my usually obedient dog ignored me, still sniffing. What did she smell? She was acting very unusual. What—

I stood up taller and looked over the rail, and gasped, even as I heard people around us start talking loudly.

“Is that someone lying down there?”

                “What’s going on?”

                “Who is that?”

For on the uneven shore, partly in the water, lay a man.

                A man who wasn’t moving.

His head lay to the side. No hat. A familiar-looking gray vinyl jacket.

I could be mistaken, but I doubted it.

And despite the difficult angle, I confirmed my suspicions as I looked down through my binoculars.

                Truit.

Great excerpt. Thanks for sharing it.

What do you like most about your role in your authors’ books?

Well, my name, Sasha, means “defender” and I’m often protecting Stacie—although I’ve been known to also find dead bodies—as you’ve just seen.

Good for you.

Are you a talking dog in your books or just a silent one like I am who just meows occasionally?

Depends on what you mean. I don’t speak English, but I do bark when the occasion warrants it.

That’s what I meant.

What advice would you give other dog characters?

Be there for your humans. Always try to at least keep them company. And when necessary, protecting them is always a good thing.

I agree with that advice.

Do you have any new books coming out? Please give dates and details.

Nothing planned at the moment, or at least nothing Lark/Linda or Stacie have told me about. But I wouldn’t mind showing up in another book.

Me, too. Now that Debbie is busy with her new series, I’ve been getting lazy. I hope she writes another Cobble Cove cozy mystery soon.

Are you and/or your author on social media? If so, please list your links.

Perfect for fans of Paige Shelton, an Alaskan tour guide is bracing for winter when she realizes that the wolves aren’t the only predators on the prowl.

With boat tours off the coast of Alaska shut down for the winter, tour guide Stacie Calder is joining the dedicated team at the Juneau Wildlife World, a wild animal sanctuary. Along with Sasha, her husky companion, she’s prepared to spend the long season in the scenic park. But not everyone is so chipper about the newcomers—least of all, Stacie’s new manager, Oliver Brownling. He constantly gives Stacie a hard time, specifically because she brought Sasha along with her. That is, until his mauled body is found in a remote part of the sanctuary containing wolves.

When it becomes clear that a human was responsible for the brutal murder, all eyes are on Stacie. Encouraged by her friend, Officer Liam Amaruq of the Alaskan State Troopers, Stacie is resolved to find the murderer but knows that her investigation will be difficult with the long suspect list she’s made. Did the sanctuary director plot to get rid of Oliver? Or maybe it was one of Oliver’s coworkers, upset over a missed promotion? Stacie wonders about some of the newer employees, especially since Oliver’s personality made it easy to make enemies.

With the weather worsening, Stacie and Sasha are forced to stay at the sanctuary with the wolves—and her colleagues. As the storm gets worse, it’s clear that this killer has a taste for blood and may strike again. Will Stacie be able to find the murderer, or will the hunter become the hunted?
